In 1822, when the Pasha of Drama Mahmoud, know as Dramalis, named by the Sultan as general commander of the Turkish troops, he marched without much resistance from Greeks with his army to Nafplio. It was so easy to arrivethere so he believed that any Greek resistance was overcome. But in Nafplio, mainly due to poor coordination of the Turkish fleet, ran out of supplies.

So he was forced to retreat, trying to deceive the Greek resistance spreading that he will be directed to Nemea. Greek Cheaf Theodoros Kolokotronis, having suspected Dramali's distraction had covered and waited with his few 2,300 men waiting for the huge Dramali's army that estimated at 24,000 men.

In order to frighten them and to direct them to the desired spot, Greek cheaf went on a trick. In Nemea St. George slope (Agiorgitiko) gathered animals to make a fuss, and on vine branches that cut from the vines hung greek army clothes (Fessi) that from long distance would give the greek army impression.

Turskish army of Dramalis fell into the trap and suffered serious losses in the battle of Dervenakion.

On this Nemea St. George slope lies the vineyard Barafaka family from which comes the Agiorgitiko wine.
