P.G.I - Protected Geographical Indication Drama
Grape Variety: Assyrtiko
Region: Mikrochori Drama
Terroir: Assyrtiko and oak seem made for one another, and here we have a superb example of that relationship. The name Idisma Drios reflects the rich sweetness imparted to the wine by its sojourn in the oak barrels.
The Wine Art Estate vineyards at Mikrochori overlook Mount Pangaion, in antiquity home of the cult of Dionysus and the Orphic mysteries.
The vineyards were planted on carefully chosen south-facing slopes, well protected against late frosts. The soil is mainly sandy-clay, suitable for the cultivation of the Greek and foreign varieties planted and ideal for the development of their characteristics.
The French grape varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, the Italian varieties Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, the Portuguese variety Touriga Nacional and the indigenous varieties Assyrtiko, Agiorgitiko, Lemiona are carefully tended, to ensure top quality fruit.
Oenology: After the skin contact maceration, the must is fermented in new and once used French oak barrels and matures in contact with its fine lees for about 5 months, for maximum body and aromatic complexity.
Winery: http://www.wineart.grThis wine has a bright golden yellow colour, and a complex aroma compounded of caramelised
citrus fruits with persistent underlying oak notes.
In the mouth, the sense of volume is perfectly balanced by a lively crispyness.
Serve cool, at 10-12°C.
Enjoy with shellfish, oily fish, poultry or pork with white sauces, spicy cheeses.
Responds well to further ageing.
